Common Questions about Acrylic

Why are there marks on my acrylic item?

Your acrylic item ships with a plastic or paper wrap/coating on one or both sides to protect it in transit. You may see scratches, burn marks, print, haze, or discoloration on the coating. This is completely normal. The coating must be removed prior to use.

  • Colored acrylic will come with a kraft color (light brown) paper coating or plastic coating.
  • Mirror acrylic colors will have a clear plastic coat on the reflective side. The back side is always grey and does not peel off.
  • Clear acrylic will come with either a kraft paper coating or blue plastic coating.

How Do I Remove the protective wrap?

  • Lay your item on a flat surface.
  • Hold the item in place with one hand near an edge.
  • Using your finger nail or hard plastic edge (round edge of a credit/debit/gift card works great) pick at the edge to lift off wrap from the edge. It may take a few tries to get an edge off.
  • After getting an edge off, gently peel back the rest of the coating from the item.
  • While peeling, apply pressure near where you are peeling to keep the item flat and avoid bending or potentially snapping the acrylic.

Do not use sharp, pointy, or metal objects such as blades, keys, and coins to peel the sign, as these are likely to scratch the acrylic. Small items such as acrylic place names and cake toppers can be extremely delicate.

How do I safely handle my acrylic sign?

Depending on the design and size of your sign, there may be thin connection points and one side may be weigh more than the other side. While handling the item, be sure to use both hands and hold the sign so the weight is balanced on both sides.

While mounting the sign we suggest you have another person hold the sign in position while you secure the sign in place.
